The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks associated with the receiving, storage, sorting, inspecting, repacking and distribution of food and other donated products including unloading deliveries, repacking food products, operating warehouse equipment, loading agency vehicles, maintaining the marketplace, volunteer coordination, and general maintenance and cleanup. Must be flexible in working in both areas of the warehouse dock and the volunteer center, based on workload demand.

Hourly Rate $18 per hour. Shift M-F, 6am-2pm.

Job Responsibilities
  • Orients, trains, and interacts with all volunteers and prepares them for the project in accordance with The Foodbank’s policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with volunteers from the community, including schools, churches, corporations, etc; coordinates food salvage and repack projects; accurately records and maintains metrics.
  • Receive and accurately record donations.
  • Assist with quarterly inventory.
  • Set up, coordinate and clean up volunteer projects.
  • Accurately prepare replenishment pallets for delivery to the Akron warehouse.
  • Perform daily housekeeping as directed by Warehouse Leadership.
  • Pick add-on products for respective agency order (i.e., produce) from designated warehouse storage as directed by Distribution Office.
  • Stage order agency orders in designated warehouse storage location.
Shipping and Receiving
  • Unload outside carrier and Foodbank Fleet Drivers for the receipt of incoming food.
  • Complete all safety checks prior to the unloading process and confirm all counts, weights, and related information against bill of lading.
  • Follow put-away plan as directed by the Sr. Manager, Operations for all incoming product.
  • Proper operation of powered equipment including, but not limited to high mast lift truck, lift truck or hand trucks, to convey, move, or hoist materials to proper areas of the Foodbank.
Distribution
  • Utilize appropriate powered equipment to load agency vehicles ranging from small, midsize to dock high.
  • Support all aspects of Market Place items ensuring quality, organization, replenishment and clean up.
  • Provide daily documentation and reporting to the Distribution Office of any Market Place pounds personally distributed to agencies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma with basic math skills
  • Minimum of 3 years warehouse experience, preferred; 3-5 years of customer service experience required
  • Passion for serving others and mission oriented
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with a diverse group of individuals, including children, young adults, elderly, and physically and mentally challenged
  • Must be able to follow all American Institute of Baking, Feeding America, Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, Occupational Safety Hazard Administration, and Foodbank (standard operating procedures and employee handbook) safety regulations
  • Ability to maintain accurate records or metrics
  • Must be able to count and have basic math skills to bin slot product
  • Commitment to outstanding customer service
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with employees, donors, vendors, and customers
  • Must be able to operate or be trained to operate a pallet jack or tow motor; must pass OSHA testing for lift truck operation
  • Must have basic computer knowledge
  • Punctual, dependable, and flexible to work overtime, as needed (evenings or weekends)
