PAY RANGE: $41,144.00 - $68,573.00

SUMMARY

The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Surface Water treatment plant in the Western Canyon Division, including monitoring and controlling functions of the distribution system, pump stations, and storage tanks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Keep a working knowledge of GBRA’s commitment and promise as they relate to the Western Canyon Division.
  • Meet the permit requirements as established by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Under the direction of the Chief Operator:
  • Operate pump stations and water treatment plant(s).
  • Collect samples and perform routine process control tests.
  • Complete in an accurate, legible manner all operational logs, laboratory and process control worksheets.
  • Monitor the SCADA system to identify communication issues and status.
  • Read, install, and replace water meters.
  • Assist in emergency repairs and operations.
  • Perform maintenance and general repair work to pumping equipment, storage tanks, and small tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Perform building and grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain an inventory of all tools and equipment.
  • Assist with the maintenance records throughout the Western Canyon Division.
  • Safeguard all facilities and property.
  • Perform rough fabrication, welding or cutting work, soldering, sandblasting, and painting, minor body repair, general carpentry, and other repair work as needed.
  • Follow all requirements of the GBRA Safety Manual and report accidents immediately.
  • Perform all work in a safe and thoughtful manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, typically 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and/or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Subject to duties outside regularly scheduled work hours as scheduled by the Chief Operator.
  • Respond to emergencies during off-duty hours.
  • Safely operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools.
  • Read and understand highly technical information in small print (such as Safety Data Sheets and operation and maintenance manuals).
  • Perform basic math skills.
  • Read analog and digital indicators.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • The permanent residence must be such that travel time to the Western Canyon Water Treatment Plant is no more than 45 minutes without violating traffic laws.
EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED.

REGISTRATIONS/LICENSES

Valid driver's license as issued by the State of Texas and the ability to remain insurable under GBRA’s vehicle liability policy.

Occupational licenses as issued by the State of Texas:

  • Class D Water Operator license.
  • Class C Surface Water Operator license within 18 months of employment.
  • Higher Surface Water licenses encouraged.
EXPERIENCE

None required. Experience in utility operations and maintenance, customer service, or construction is desirable.
