Texas Baptists is a convention of more than 5,300 Baptist churches. Active membership at a church supportive of Texas Baptists is a condition of employment. The Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) Director is responsible for the direction of the total ministry on the local campus. In addition to coordinating the campus ministry, they will assist in the work of the local Baptist churches in the campus community as the BSM joins with these churches in a total ministry to students.

• Direct the total local BSM ministry based upon the vision adopted by the BGCT (aka Texas Baptists) Center for Collegiate Ministry (aka TXBSM): to engage the 1.6 million college students in Texas to follow Christ and transform the world, which finds expression through the participation of students in evangelism, discipleship, missions, and church life.
• Work with the local leadership group effectively to provide a student ministry program that is appropriate to the campus situation and acceptable to the local Baptist churches.
• Facilitate a ministry of care and encouragement to include, but not limited to, these groups on campus:
  • Students (BSM staff will not be involved in ongoing counseling, but will encourage students to seek professional help).
  • Campus faculty and staff
  • Local church workers
• Administer the budget in alignment with TXBSM and BGCT-approved goals and objectives for the campus, including:
  • Work with the local leadership group in budget planning.
  • Make regular financial reports to the local leadership group.
  • Provide budget information and promotional materials.
  • Follow TXBSM and BGCT guidelines for financial accountability.
  • Engage in Ministry Partner Development (MPD) for local BSM personnel and program budget.
• Supervise the local Baptist Student Center (if applicable), including:
  • Demonstrate proper care of facilities, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Assist with overall maintenance and coordinate major repairs with TXBSM State Staff supervisor.
  • Contract with janitor and yard services to care for the Center.
• Attend all required meetings and training:
  • New Worker Training (scheduled)
  • TXBSM Annual July Staff Meeting (last week of July)
  • Supervisor Training (scheduled)
  • Annual local Executive Board meetings
  • Local leadership group meetings
  • Student leadership meetings
  • Weekly BSM programs
  • Mission Trips
  • Personal meetings with students for discipleship/leadership development and others determined by the Center or local leadership group.
• Communicate with the Center for Collegiate Ministry through monthly financial reports, student missions forms, and semester and yearly ministry reports.
• Provide direction and supervision of direct reports, including:
  • Professional growth and development
  • Develop and communicate goals and objectives
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide feedback
  • Conduct annual performance and ongoing evaluation.
• Coordinate the program of Bible teaching (if offered on campus).
• Respond to requests for information timely.
• Maintain compliance with the BGCT employee policies and procedures, and all state and federal laws.
• Perform other duties as required.

• In-depth understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge, generally acquired through an earned master’s degree from an accredited seminary (Baptist Seminary preferred).
• Active membership in a church supportive of the BGCT that is also a cooperating church within the Association and is supportive of local BSM ministry during employment. Maintain a healthy personal church life, lead students into local church involvement, and serve churches that provide support.
• Commitment to Christian principles and teachings professionally and personally. Knowledge of and commitment to traditional Baptist distinctives, denominational structure, and church programs.
