Primary Purpose

Support transportation staff across a feeder pattern by managing student behavior concerns and promoting safety standards. Coordinate and communicate disciplinary actions with parents and school personnel in a clear and professional manner.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED — Preferred
  • Class B CDL with Passenger & School Bus endorsements (Paid Training provided)
  • Texas School Bus Driver Safety Certification (Paid Training provided)

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills or basic knowledge of computer programs
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol test
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to operate a bus
  • Ability to respond in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and interpret routes, forms, and maps
  • Experience with children is preferred
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Lead Driver Operations
  • Assist school bus drivers and aides within a feeder pattern in addressing student behavior and safety concerns.
  • Respond to incoming phone calls from parents and staff regarding transportation and student-related issues.
  • Meet with parents in person to review concerns, including bus surveillance footage, and discuss appropriate resolutions.
  • Investigate and document student incidents, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Communicate disciplinary actions and expectations clearly with parents, students, and school personnel.
  • Collaborate with campus staff and transportation teams to maintain consistent behavior standards.
  • Monitor and review bus camera footage to support incident evaluations and decision-making.
  • Maintain detailed records of incidents, communications, and resolutions in accordance with district policies.
  • School Bus Driver Operations

    9. Operate bus and related equipment safely and efficiently, following traffic laws and department policies.

    10. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

    11. Report bus damage or mechanical issues immediately.

    12. Keep the bus interior clean and maintain fuel levels as directed.

    13. Drive field trips as needed.

    Safety and Compliance
  • 14. Complete reports accurately and promptly; report any accidents, incidents, or job-related injuries immediately.
  • 15. Perform regular emergency evacuations and keep evacuation plans updated.
  • 16. Participate in required safety and in-service training.
  • 17. Maintain an acceptable driving record and pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Student Management
  • 18. Maintain effective student behavior management and complete discipline reports as needed.
  • 19. Load and unload students safely, assist with securing devices when applicable.
  • 20. Establish rapport with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Communication
  • 21. Notify supervisor of any passenger changes.
  • 22. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and co-workers.
  • 23. Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Professional Conduct
  • 24. Demonstrate regular attendance and reliability.
  • 25. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
  • 26. Work harmoniously with supervisors and peers.
  • 27. Arrive at workstation on time each day.
  • 28. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Working Conditions

    Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:

    • Tools/Equipment Used: School bus; two-way radio; safety equipment; district computer along with applicable software.
    • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
    • Motion: Frequent walking; regular grasping/squeezing; wrist flexion/extension and reaching; regular driving.
    • Lifting: Must be able to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds (small child in emergency situations).
    • Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, and vibration; exposure to chemical hazards; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel.
    • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.
