Senior Electrical Engineer
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, simulating, laying out, and testing printed circuit boards to ensure they meet electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing specifications. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Leading PCB electrical design activities, including schematic development, component selection, and layout guidance for complex, multi-layer circuit boards.
- Owning the design of high-speed digital circuits, including processors, memory systems, and high-bandwidth communication interfaces.
- Performing detailed PCB layout considerations, such as controlled-impedance routing, differential pair tuning, stack-up planning, and power-distribution design.
- Conducting signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis to validate design performance and ensure reliable high-speed operation.
- Developing resilient architectures incorporating features like redundancy, watchdogs, fail-safe circuitry, and robust memory subsystems.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (firmware, software, systems, mechanical) to ensure seamless integration of board-level electronics into larger systems.
- Performing design verification and validation, including board bring-up, functional testing, environmental testing, and troubleshooting.
- Generating and maintaining engineering documentation, including schematics, BOMs, test procedures, analysis reports, and design review materials.
- Supporting manufacturing partners, providing DFM/DFT input and resolving issues in fabrication, assembly, or testing.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards (IPC, IEEE, MIL-STD, etc.) and internal quality processes.
- Leading technical design reviews and mentoring junior engineers in best practices for PCB design and high-reliability electronics engineering.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required education and experience include:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- 5+ years of experience in high-performance PCB design, preferably in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability sectors.
- Proficient with Altium Designer (or similar tools).
- Excellent understanding of the technical principles of PCB layout.
- Experience with high-reliability, aerospace, and/or IPC Class 3 designs.
- Familiarity with advanced PCB manufacturing techniques such as blind vias and microvias.
Required skills include:
- Excellent understanding of the technical principles of PCB layout.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
- Demonstrated capability with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Confluence, and Jira.
- The ability to work well under deadlines.
- Strong digital, written, and spoken communication skills, especially in the context of working with hardware engineers and mechanical engineers to complete a layout.
Physical requirements include:
- Sedentary Work – occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to carry, lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves being stationary most of the time, sometimes requiring moving about the work center on concrete surfaces.
- Computer Work – daily use of laptop, computer monitor screen, keyboard, and mouse, sometimes utilizing a headset with microphone & speakers.
Travel requirement:
- Ability to travel < 10%
