Job Overview & Responsibilities


United Launch Alliance is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2 to support the Engineering and Infrastructure Major Projects team at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This position will serve as a field-facing mechanical project engineer responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing maintenance, repair, and sustainment work for critical launch processing and launch support infrastructure.

The role will focus on mechanical and structural facility systems within the Vertical Integration Facilities and Space Launch Complex 41, including movable platforms, doors, mechanisms, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, actuators, corrosion control repairs, concrete repairs, and related facility systems.

This is a project execution and facility readiness role. The selected candidate will use engineering judgment, organization, technical writing, contractor coordination, and project management skills to help keep launch infrastructure safe, reliable, and ready to support processing operations.

Minimum of 2 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems such as mechanisms, actuators, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps, valves, movable platforms, doors, or electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, technical manuals, procedures, statements of work, contractor proposals, and/or project documentation.
  • Ability to write clear technical scope documents that define what work is required, why it is required, and how the work should be executed.
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to track multiple systems, projects, deficiencies, maintenance activities, due dates, costs, risks, and action items at the same time.
  • Ability to coordinate work across multiple groups and disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues, project status, risks, and funding needs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb stairs and work outside for parts of the day.
  • Ability to support occasional off-hour, weekend, or urgent work when required by launch processing schedules, maintenance windows, or emergent facility issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting maintenance, repair, construction, or modification of industrial facilities, aerospace facilities, launch facilities, manufacturing facilities, or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Experience serving as an owner's representative, project engineer, maintenance engineer, construction coordinator, or technical project manager.
  • Experience developing statements of work, technical requirements, estimates, schedules, funding requests, change requests, or contractor work packages.
  • Experience coordinating contractor field work around operational constraints.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, movable platforms, large doors, mechanical mechanisms, facility actuation systems, or PLC-supported mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with corrosion control, coating systems, concrete repair, structural repair coordination, or facility sustainment programs.
  • Experience creating and maintaining maintenance trackers, condition assessment matrices, readiness dashboards, action item logs, or other project control tools.
  • Experience with SAP, Microsoft Project, Excel, SharePoint, Power BI, or other maintenance, project management, or reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work based on safety, mission impact, operational impact, technical risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing leadership or cross-functional stakeholders.
