Instrumentation & Controls Technician III

Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States

At Relativity Space, we're building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that's just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven't been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you're in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you'll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time.

Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we're writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it's early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum.

The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Role
  • Lead instrumentation and controls projects from planning through completion, coordinating schedules, materials, technical requirements, and cross-functional activities to support launch site build and activation.
  • Install, verify, calibrate, and troubleshoot sensors and instrumentation used to measure temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, vibration, and other operating conditions.
  • Perform technical work independently across instrumentation and controls systems, applying established procedures, engineering requirements, and industry practices to resolve equipment and system issues.
  • Collaborate with pad Engineering and other technical teams to identify risks, communicate field conditions, provide feedback, and implement improvements that support safe and reliable system activation.
  • Plan and coordinate assigned work by identifying material needs, ordering components, tracking task progress, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
  • Support installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities in field environments, which will require lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
About You
  • Demonstrated experience working with instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems in an industrial, manufacturing, aerospace, or comparable technical environment.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic circuits and sensors used to measure temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, vibration, or similar operating conditions.
  • Experience troubleshooting instrumentation and electrical systems using electrical fundamentals, diagnostic procedures, and standard hand and test equipment.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to technicians on instrumentation, controls, troubleshooting, or related work.
  • Working knowledge of oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters, and other electrical diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, CAD drawings, electrical diagrams, and circuit schematics to support installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience installing and integrating networked equipment using communication protocols and interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, Modbus, CAN bus, or comparable systems.
  • Experience with electrical harnessing and termination methods, including use of MIL-STD-type connectors, wiring, or fiber-optic communication components.
  • Familiarity with intrinsically safe instrumentation and installation practices for hazardous or classified locations.
