Responsible for the planning, design, operation, and continuous improvement of the NSBU electric distribution system to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electric service. Oversees engineering activities related to system design, infrastructure upgrades, and regulatory compliance. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in overhead and underground electric distribution system design, as well as the materials, methods, and standards used in overhead and underground distribution construction.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepares and reviews construction plan sets and specifications for all facets of NSBU substation, transmission, and distribution projects. Ensures NSBU standards are met and that the appropriate testing and commissioning processes are performed. Works with and manages engineering consultants as needed for the execution of electric system projects and initiatives.
- Management of substation, transmission, and distribution electric system projects whose design and construction activies are performed by NSBU engineers and staff or engineering consultants and electric utility contractors. Management includes initial project budgeting and approval process, preconstruction activities, shop drawing review, pay application review, progress meetings and tracking, inspection coordination, contractor and NSBU department coordination, responding to contractor requests for information, resolving field discrepancies, substation and final completion determination, and performing project close-out documentation.
- Provides engineering assistance for operations in the design, maintenance, and installation of relays, breakers, fuses, and other protection devices in the electric system, including protective relay schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation.
- Performs and reviews electric system planning functions such as modeling electric system operating conditions, performing system studies (load flow, fault current, coordination, etc.), creating and reviewing construction work plans, etc.
- Evaluates the NSBU electric system and proposes designs to provide service to new residential and commercial customers and to enhance the reliability of service to NSBU electric customers.
- Provides information in response to questionnaires and submittals pertaining to generation requirements, planning, loads, future growth, and other planning information.
- Responds to requests from ratepayers for street lights, solar systems, and other utility programs.
- Utilizes technical knowledge and experience to resolve customer issues related to electric service. Assists with creating and updating compliance documentation for NERC, SERC, and FRCC.
- Reviews construction plan sets to ensure NSBU standards are met and that the appropriate testing and commissioning processes are performed for new electric infrastructure.
- Understands and adheres to established control procedures, such as proper authorization of expenditures. Immediately report any suspected control deficiencies or fraudulent activities to supervisors or through established whistleblowing channels.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required. EIT or Professional Engineer license (PE) preferred.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE DUTIESThis position is part of New Smyrna Beach Utilities Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation.
