Police Officer
Under general supervision of the Police Department, the purpose of the position is to provide support for all components of the Lauderhill Police Department as needed. Employees in this classification perform non‑routine clerical, investigative, and minor police‑related duties. The position is responsible for preparing police reports, responding to calls for assistance, investigating motor vehicle crashes, issuing traffic and parking citations, and performing related duties as directed.
Responsibilities- Patrol in marked Police Service Aide units; answer and respond to calls for service.
- Investigate traffic crashes and prepare crash reports, including Hit & Run follow‑up investigations.
- Investigate minor property crimes such as theft, criminal mischief, vehicle burglaries, fraud, auto theft, and other non‑violent calls.
- Prepare incident reports and assist with traffic control.
- Assist with transporting documents and evidence to and from court, the lab, and the police department.
- Issue parking citations and other infractions of the law.
- Conduct crime prevention awareness programs for public and private groups.
- Assist at crime scenes and at special activities or events.
- Process minor crime scenes for evidence; deploy and retrieve department equipment.
- Attend and testify at court or give depositions when subpoenaed.
- Enter and cancel information on a Teletype machine.
- Accept and process subpoenas for sworn and non‑sworn personnel.
- Research and provide information to staff and the public.
- Prepare periodic reports and logs, such as vehicle inspection logs, daily logs, and overtime slips.
- Attend seminars and classes to maintain or improve technical and professional skills.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid State of Florida driver's license.
- Have successfully completed and passed the State of Florida Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) or possess an Associate's Degree or higher.
- Ability to complete and pass the Police Service Aide Academy and the City of Lauderhill's Police Department's Field Training Program.
- The ability to work 84 hours per pay period, 12‑hour shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Data Utilization – evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data and information using established criteria.
- Human Interaction – provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others.
- Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization – operate, maneuver, and control equipment, machinery, tools, and materials used in performing essential functions.
- Verbal Aptitude – perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Mathematical Aptitude – perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Functional Reasoning – apply principles of rational systems; interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards.
- Situation Reasoning – exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria.
- Physical Ability – exert moderate physical effort in light work, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials of moderate weight (12‑20 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements – perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, odors, and other sensory inputs as required; oral communication ability.
- Environmental Factors – risk exposure to temperature extremes, strong odors, toxic agents/chemicals, smoke, wetness, humidity, animals/wildlife, disease and/or pathogens, electrical currents, violence, bright/dim light, noise extremes, machinery, dust or pollen, and traffic hazards.
