This position will perform maintenance and servicing work to maintain the State Road Right of Way. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC:

Your specific responsibilities include performing minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assisting in the repairs of this equipment; checking and adding fluids, checking/adjusting brakes, maintaining proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license, operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to;

dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance. Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision. Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.

Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.

The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of mathematical calculations; standard safety rules and procedures. Skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools; operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles. Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms, maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures, communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions, develop and maintain effective working relationships with others, lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds, stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis, work outdoors in various weather conditions on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic, work independently, stand for an extended period of time.

Other job-related requirements include responding to emergencies and being "on-call" (24-hour duty) when necessary. Possess a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.

Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team.

Minimum qualifications require one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles. A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire. A CDL Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment. This position requires a valid Class (E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy.
