Position Title: Equipment Operator

Salary Range: $38,593.58 – $49,944.63
Location: 2981 N.E. Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral, FL 33909
Responsibilities- Perform minor maintenance and servicing on equipment used in state road and bridge maintenance.
- Check and add fluids, adjust brakes, maintain air pressure in all tires, and keep equipment clean.
- Operate vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment (dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, grader, lift equipment, bulldozer, asphalt repair truck) after obtaining the required instructional CDL permit or license.
- Use hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools for bridge and roadway maintenance tasks.
- Perform manual labor as needed, including tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assisting with highway sign assembly.
- Execute Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) duties and assist with crew activity reports as required.
- Mathematical calculations and standard safety rules and procedures.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment safely.
- Maintain and repair highway and bridge structures.
- Communicate verbally and in writing, follow oral and written instructions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds; perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Work independently and stand for extended periods.
- Must respond to emergencies, be on‑call (24‑hour duty) when necessary.
- Possess a valid Class "E" driver’s license and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment and a Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months.
- Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level within one year.
- Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates; be responsive to emergency situations.
- One year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
- Valid Class "E" driver’s license at time of hire.
- Instructions for obtaining CDL as outlined above.
- Acceptable driving record as defined by the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
