Intake Specialist TRIO and Educational Access Programs

Full-Time / Grant Funded

Primary Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the TRIO staff, develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment and outreach plan to identify, engage, and select eligible participants into the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) and McNair Scholars Programs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate orientation experiences that foster a welcoming and supportive transition for new program participants.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with campus departments and community organizations to expand awareness of TRIO programs and connect students with resources that promote academic and personal success, including employment, internships, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Represent the TRIO Programs at institutional recruitment and enrollment events, including First Step Orientations, Show Me Days, and other university-sponsored outreach activities.
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver proactive student success initiatives that promote persistence, academic achievement, retention, and timely graduation.
  • Assist with the collection, analysis, and reporting of program data to support federal reporting requirements, program evaluation, continuous improvement, and assessment of student outcomes.
  • Coordinate with the TRIO staff to develop and implement student-centered programming that encourages engagement, leadership development, and academic excellence across TRIO programs.
  • Provide day-to-day mentorship and support to TRIO Graduate Assistants and student employees.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments with participants and develop individualized student success plans that address academic, financial, career, and personal development goals.
  • Maintain an assigned caseload of TRIO/SSS participants while providing collaborative support to students participating in the TRIO McNair Scholars Program.
  • Deliver holistic, one-on-one advising and coaching that empowers students to navigate academic planning, financial aid processes, course registration, goal setting, and utilization of campus resources.
  • Plan and coordinate student-centered workshops, leadership opportunities, cultural enrichment activities, and annual signature events that enhance student engagement and sense of belonging.
  • Participate in institutional initiatives that advance student success, retention, and graduation for first-generation, limited income, and students with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the TRIO Student Support Services and McNair Scholars Programs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience administering, interpreting, or utilizing academic assessment tools to support student success planning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn student information and data management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience with data collection, data management, reporting, and program assessment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting first-generation college students, students from limited-income backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality, student-centered service through advising, mentoring, coaching, or related student support experiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and foster a welcoming environment that supports student belonging and success.
