Finance and Administration Controller's Office Full time; multiple positions available
Primary Responsibilities- Prepare journal entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts;
Work with the Controller and University personnel to investigate, correct, and follow up on any inaccuracies identified - Ensure integrity and accuracy of all accounting transactions under GAAP, including both routine transactions as well as some complex, non-recurring transactions
- Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures all within GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) guidelines
- Prepare basic balance sheets, profit and loss statements, amortization and depreciation schedules and other financial reports
- Prepare ad hoc reports on a routine basis
- Reconcile and prepare sales and use tax filings, approve expenditures, and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures
- Prepare bank and third-party Perkins loans reconciliations, assist with corrections, stale date checks and train University personnel related to cash receipting as appropriate
- Assist as a backup to banking functions
- Hire, train and supervise a student worker each semester to assist with reconciliations and journal entries
- Assist in annual closing which includes year end entries and preparation of audit work papers under direction of Senior Accountants
- Advise departments on Banner Finance maintenance which includes FOAPs, approvals, approval queues, security, suspended documents, annual security review and other Banner maintenance
- Ensure workload is prioritized so tasks are accomplished in a timely manner and deadlines are met
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of one year of accounting experience
- Minimum one year of experience with Word, Excel, and Access;
Experience with ERP systems is a plus - Financial reporting experience with internal and external regulations
- General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
Experience with Governmental (GASB) or Non-Profit (FASB) is a plus - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
