Job Summary
Responsible for the administration of anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in (1) Pre‑Anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) Anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; (3) Post‑Anesthesia Care; (4) Peri‑Anesthetic and clinical support functions. Works collaboratively under the anesthesiologist and the overall direction of the OR Manager, Director of Surgical Services and Vice President of Patient Care Services.
EducationGraduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthetist.
Certification & Licensures- Current licensure to practice as a CRNA in the state of Missouri

- Maintains the standards of anesthesia care and implements the related policies and procedures of the medical center and the Surgery department.
- Organizes and sets priorities when performing anesthesia duties. Performs psychological evaluations to assist in the development of rehabilitation plans for outpatients and inpatients.
- Reviews and follows the anesthesiologist’s plan of care, including the pre‑anesthetic assessment and evaluation, anesthetic type and risk classification. Reviews the patient’s current health status and medical history, including pertinent lab work before administering any anesthetic. Refers any questions/concerns to the supervising anesthesiologist and ensures they are notified of induction and emergence.
- Demonstrates proficiency in all modes of administering general anesthesia. Competent to perform and/or monitor any procedure involving regional anesthesia, including labor epidural analgesia. Administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis, and correct abnormal responses. Manages emergence and recovery from anesthesia by administering medications, fluids, or ventilator support to maintain homeostasis, alleviate pain and side effects, or prevent or manage complications.
Responds to emergency situations with airway management, emergency fluids or drugs, or basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. - Checks all anesthesia equipment, e.g., gas machines, monitors, etc., prior to use to ensure integrity and documents troubleshooting. Provides a comfortable environment, maintains patient dignity, and identifies unsafe situations for reporting. Confers with surgeon/supervising anesthesiologist regarding positioning.
