American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neurosciences night shift position at a Level 3 Trauma Center in Cape Girardeau, MO, requiring at least 1 year of experience and a willingness to take on charge duties.
Details- Neurosciences unit within a 245-bed Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center
- Patient population includes medical and surgical neuro cases such as Parkinson's, stroke, and lumbar — no trauma
- 17-bed unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Standard equipment including IV pumps; EMR is Epic
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is expected unless otherwise approved
- Floating required to Med/Surg and Progressive units per customary expectations
- No on-call requirements
- Active MO or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (may be completed at orientation)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg Neurosciences RN experience
- Must have charge nurse experience or be willing to learn and take on charge duties
- Neuro and stroke experience highly preferred
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required;
Canadian SINs are not accepted - No gaps in employment of 90+ days within the past 12 months
- The facility holds Joint Commission certifications as a Comprehensive Cardiac Center and Primary Stroke Center, and holds Missouri Level II Stroke and Level I STEMI Center designations
- Nurse will be expected to attend a Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned by the nurse manager
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, and attentiveness to patient outcomes are valued on this unit
- Black scrubs are required
- Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; exemptions must be client-approved
- Candidates are expected to work at least one major summer (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day) or winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day)
- Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week contract is allowed but must be made up during the assignment
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a reduced bill rate
- Local candidates within 50 miles are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts before a 1-year separation or transfer to a facility outside the 50-mile radius is required
