Job Purpose

To support the design and development of creative visual assets across digital and print platforms. The Junior Graphic Designer contributes to projects from concept to completion by creating images, animations, layouts, and multimedia content that communicate Safety

SA’s brand message and training objectives effectively. The role ensures all materials adhere to corporate identity (CI) standards and reflect Safety

SA’s commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.

This position is based in either Durban or Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities

1.
Design & Creative Production

  • Conceptualise and design materials for advertisements, social media posts, invitations, brochures, specials, print media, HTML, CSS, and web content.
  • Collaborate with the design and marketing team to brainstorm, develop, and execute creative campaigns.
  • Present innovative branding ideas and conceptualise visual elements based on project requirements.
  • Ensure all artwork is created, formatted, and supplied in correct sizes, colour codes, and file types before submission to press or production facilities.
  • Produce animations and short videos as required to support digital and training initiatives.
  • Maintain consistent visual language and application of Safety

    SA’s CI across all media outputs.
  • Use feedback from peers and management to improve quality and effectiveness of design outputs.
  • Assist with adapting and rolling out approved concepts to different media formats (print, digital, and web).

2.
Administration & Coordination

  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties within the marketing and design environment.
  • Update computer databases and ensure all artwork and project assets are correctly filed and backed up.
  • Manage multiple design briefs simultaneously and meet all deadlines.
  • Handle design-related service tickets and requests assigned through internal systems.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to extend concepts and visuals to related materials or campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the Printroom department to ensure artwork is print-ready and aligned with production specifications.
  • Ensure print media is uploaded to appropriate publication channels (e.g., Caxtons) correctly and timeously.
  • Assist in arranging promotional events, branding setups, and other visual communication tasks as required by management.

3.
Collaboration & Quality Assurance

  • Work closely with senior designers, marketing specialists, and other team members to ensure all creative outputs meet quality standards.
  • Participate in feedback sessions and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Support internal projects by providing creative input and ensuring design consistency across Safety

    SA’s platforms.
  • Adhere to turnaround times and reporting cycles for design work completion.
Qualification
  • Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, Multimedia Design, or a related field.
  • Training in digital design, branding, or multimedia advantageous.
Experience
  • 1–2 years’ experience in a graphic design, digital design, or multimedia environment (internships acceptable).
  • Experience designing for both digital platforms and print media.
  • Exposure to:
    • Social media content creation
    • Layout design for both print and digital
    • Short video or animation production
    • Working cross functionally within a design or marketing team
Skills & Competencies
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite:
    • Photoshop
    • Illustrator
    • In Design
    • After Effects / Premiere Pro (for animations/videos)
  • Basic HTML/CSS layout understanding.
  • Strong understanding of print ready requirements (CMYK/RGB, bleeds, margins, file preparation).
  • Ability to create multimedia content.
  • Creative conceptualisation and visual storytelling.
  • Strong attention to detail and CI compliance.
  • Excellent time management; ability to handle multiple briefs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of corporate identity standards and brand consistency.
  • Awareness of current digital, social media, and graphic design trends.
  • Understanding of internal design processes, ticketing workflows, and file management.
  • Basic understanding of Safety

    SA’s safety and compliance culture.
