ROLE BRIEF
The Mid-Sub Editor will be responsible for editing, proofreading, and ensuring the quality, accuracy, and consistency of content across print and digital publications. The role involves working closely with writers, designers, and senior editors to ensure content meets editorial standards, brand guidelines, and publishing deadlines.
The Mid-Sub Editor plays a key role in maintaining the credibility, tone, and professionalism of the publication while ensuring content is engaging, error-free, and aligned with the company’s editorial strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIESContent Editing & Proofreading
Edit and proofread articles, features, advertising copy, and digital content for grammar, spelling, clarity, style, and accuracy.
Ensure content adheres to the publication’s editorial style guide and brand voice.
Fact-check content to ensure accuracy and credibility.
Sub-Editing & Layout Coordination
Sub-edit content for print and digital layouts, ensuring copy fits allocated space and design requirements.
Work closely with designers and production teams to ensure correct placement and formatting of content.
Check page proofs and final layouts before publication.
Quality Control & Editorial Standards
Maintain consistent editorial quality across all platforms.
Ensure legal and ethical publishing standards are adhered to.
Flag potential risks such as defamatory content, plagiarism, or factual inaccuracies.
Workflow & Deadline Management
Provide constructive feedback to writers to improve content quality.
Assist with content planning, story ideas, and editorial calendars.
Support senior editors with editorial projects and special publications.
REQUIREMENTS- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a sub-editor, editor, or journalist
, preferably in a publishing or media environment. - Relevant qualification in Journalism, Media Studies, English, Communications, or
similar . - Strong knowledge of editorial standards, grammar, and style guides (e.g., AP, Chicago, or in-house style guides).
- Experience working with print and digital publishing platforms .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and content management systems (CMS) .
- Experience with InDesign or editorial workflows (advantageous).
