About the team:The Performance & Attribution team is a global team with a presence in London and Cape Town. We support all Ninety One offices by providing investment performance and attribution analysis on single assets, portfolios, funds, benchmarks, strategies, capabilities, and the firm as a whole. Our work underpins reporting to Portfolio Managers and the broader Investment teams, Client Groups, Marketing, and Senior Management, and we are central to ensuring clients receive accurate and timely performance information.
The Cape Town team is growing in scope as the business onboards Sanlam’s South African client base, and is modernising its systems and processes as part of a broader transition to more automated, resilient ways of working
- Assist in the calculation, production and reporting of fund, benchmark, and peer performance and attribution across daily, monthly, and quarterly cycles
- Take ownership of daily controls and data quality checks, investigating and resolving breaks across holdings, transactions, and pricing data in partnership with Data Operations
- Be proficient in the use of performance systems (Stat Pro Revolution and Morningstar) to deliver and report on these analyses
- Support the continual development and improvement of performance and attribution reports, processes, and system configuration, including identifying opportunities for automation
- Assist with daily ad hoc requests and query investigations from Portfolio Managers, Client Groups, and Marketing
- Contribute to the production of management and board reporting, and monthly GIPS reports
- Work alongside automation and data engineering colleagues to scope, test, and validate new tools that reduce manual processing and improve data accuracy
- Support the team through the South African client integration project, including assisting with onboarding-related performance and benchmark setup
- A degree in a quantitative subject or a degree with a high mathematical content (e.g. mathematics, statistics, finance, econometrics, or a related discipline), or CA(SA) or an equivalent professional qualification (CFA would be an advantage)
- At least 2-3 years’ direct experience within performance, risk, or a closely related analytical function within asset management, banking, or finance, or 5 years’ broader experience in the financial services industry
- Strong Excel skills, with working knowledge of, or a genuine willingness to develop skills in Python, SQL, or VBA
- Experience with, or strong familiarity with, Stat Pro/Revolution, Fact Set, or other performance and attribution systems; exposure to Morningstar would be useful
- A keen interest in process improvement and automation, with curiosity about how data and technology can reduce manual work and improve accuracy
- The ability to work calmly and accurately under time pressure, particularly around month-end and quarter-end cycles
