Investment Analyst

Our client is fast growing boutique investment company, who now reuires a new resource – as a Junior Investment Research Analyst, you will be working within our team of highly experienced, thought-leading, and globally connected investment professionals. This is a key entry point into thier investment team, through which you will be supported and empowered to develop hands-on knowledge and expertise across multiple areas within our investment firm.

Our client manages R70bn in client assets across local and offshore markets, and provide investment advisory services and fund manager research to local and offshore clients across global markets. In this role you will benefit from hands-on exposure to the global asset management, wealth management, and unit trust industries. In addition, through involvement in each area of our rigorous and institutional quality investment process, you will get the opportunity to develop the expertise that will accelerate your career growth as an investment professional.

You will report to the Head of Investment Process, and will be responsible for supporting the fund manager research process alongside a range of activities spanning our investment functions. Fund research sits at the core of our investment process, and you will be involved in manager and fund due diligence, quantitative and qualitative analysis, portfolio construction inputs, and the preparation of research materials for our Investment Committee.

Sound data underpins all of this, and you will play a role in maintaining the integrity, structure, and accuracy of the data that feeds our research, analytics, and reporting processes. You will also gain exposure to investment analytics, trading, and reporting, giving you a broad grounding across the areas of investment research, asset allocation, portfolio management, implementation, compliance, and client reporting.

• An exceptional academic track record, reflecting the intellectual horsepower needed to grow quickly into a demanding research role
• Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to interrogate data, question assumptions, and reason through complex problems
• The role suits a fresh graduate with up to 3 years’ experience in a relevant financial services role (asset management, wealth management, fund research, or similar). Recent graduates with a strong academic record and relevant internship exposure are welcome to apply
• A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. finance, economics, investment management, actuarial science, or another numerate discipline)
• Progress towards, or a stated intention to pursue, a professional qualification such as the CFA
• Strong analytical skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy. Proficiency in Excel is essential, and familiarity with tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI/Power Query, or other data and automation tools is advantageous, as is a broader interest in and comfort with AI tools
• Emerging leadership qualities, with the potential to take on greater responsibility and influence within the team over time
• A genuine interest in global markets, fund managers, and investment strategy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a small, high-performance team
