Job Overview
The Relationship Manager is responsible for growing and defending profitable market share with a core focus on originating new business opportunities through large wholesale channels including RMB and achieving pre-determined sales targets. The incumbent identifies corporate client needs and delivers customised solutions for a portfolio of large corporate clients, including amongst others: JSE-listed, multinationals and public listed entities. Most of the customer base carry high levels of exposure at group level.
The incumbent builds and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensures customer service excellence. The responsibility of the incumbent would be the selling of Wes Bank related products, setting up credit facilities for large corporate clients and ensuring ongoing relationship management.
As a RM / Senior Deal Maker (Asset Based Finance), you will be part of a high‑performing team of self‑motivated sales professionals responsible for delivering the full Wes Bank Asset Based Finance offering to new and existing RMB clients. The role focuses on originating and converting new business opportunities through large wholesale channels, including RMB, while achieving defined sales targets and growing profitable market share.
You will identify corporate client needs and structure customised financial solutions for a portfolio that includes JSE-listed companies, multinationals, and major public entities, many of which carry significant exposure at group level. The role requires strong relationship management, risk understanding, and strategic client engagement. Key responsibilities include selling Wes Bank products, structuring credit facilities for large corporate clients, and ensuring ongoing relationship and portfolio management.
You will also build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while delivering service excellence. Successful candidates will be based in Fairland and RMB offices in Merchant Place.
- Build, cultivate and manage strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, senior stakeholders and internal partners.
- Explore and develop new business opportunities to expand and strengthen the business’ market presence.
- Deliver on sales targets and contribute to the growth of profitable business.
- Analyse, identify and develop tailored solutions for corporate clients, including complex and high-exposure portfolios.
- Prepare and present high- quality credit applications to credit committees.
- Create new opportunities and contribute to book growth and C&I strategy.
- Analyse credit information to assess risk and ensure deals are structured appropriately.
- Maintain expert knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry best practices and risk policies to provide proactive advice.
- Implement strong business processes to minimise risk and address findings from internal or external audit reviews.
- Ensure accurate, time-sensitive and high- quality service delivery.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive continuous process improvement.
- Translate strategies into actionable goals with defined performance measures and monitoring mechanisms.
- Facilitate the conversion of knowledge and ideas into improved products, processes or services.
- Participate in development activities to enhance own capability.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the economic environment, business risks, sector trends and financial reporting, applying these insights to client engagements and business opportunities.
- Hold a relevant BCom degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
- Additional relevant qualifications will be advantageous.
- Have 3-5 years’ experience in business/commercial banking, financial services, or credit application processes.
- Have experience within the banking, services, or financial sector, including exposure to Commercial or Asset‑Based Finance.
- Proven track record in sales, particularly in new business development or "hunting" roles.
- Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills.
