Ability is expanding its climate finance investment activities in Sub-Saharan Africa and emerging markets through its Direct Lending platform. The company is seeking an investment professional to join the Climate Finance team as a Senior Investment Officer focused on Sub-Saharan Africa. This position offers a unique opportunity to originate and structure debt transactions with climate finance players while contributing to the development of the direct lending strategy in the region.

The role is based in respons

Ability’s new office in Cape Town and provides considerable room for personal initiative within a future-oriented working environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teams located across multiple offices including Cape Town, Mumbai, Tbilisi, and Zurich, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to advance climate finance investments in Sub-Saharan Africa.

• Originate debt investment opportunities in the climate finance space, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate-relevant infrastructure, e-mobility, and food systems
• Lead end-to-end deal execution, including sourcing, due diligence, financial modelling, and credit appraisal of prospective investments
• Structure and negotiate debt and debt-like transactions in alignment with the risk and return expectations of respons
  
  Ability-managed funds
• Draft and present investment proposals to relevant investment decision bodies
• Lead negotiations of legal documentation with support from legal advisors
• Lead thematic inputs in relevant market segments and technologies
• Expand the sector-specific network across the region by engaging with key stakeholders
• Contribute to the further development of the investment strategy across Sub-Saharan Africa in close collaboration with key stakeholders
• Liaise with teams located in Cape Town, Mumbai, Tbilisi, and Zurich

• 8+ years of investment experience in the climate finance space
• Post-graduate degree in economics, business administration, finance, or comparable discipline from a top academic institution
• Proven deal experience in climate finance, demonstrated through structured debt or equity deal references
