SummaryA leading client in the marine and engineering sector is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Safety Officer to be based in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant SHEQ legislation, company policies and international standards, while promoting a strong safety culture across operations.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure business unit policies and procedures are effectively implemented and consistently followed
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all legal and statutory SHEQ requirements
- Implement and conduct route and site inspections in line with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 standards
- Conduct visits to vessels and various operational sites to ensure safety compliance
- Perform risk assessments and identify mitigation measures
- Compile and maintain project safety files and documentation packs
- Lead incident and accident investigations, including reporting and corrective actions
- Coordinate and manage employee inductions and safety onboarding processes
- Facilitate toolbox talks and safety awareness initiatives
- Coordinate and participate in safety meetings with stakeholders
- Conduct and manage customer satisfaction surveys relating to SHEQ performance
- Liaise with management teams to ensure full legislative and operational compliance.
- SAMTRAC qualification (essential)
- NEBOSH qualification (advantageous)
- 5 – 8 years’ experience in a supervisory safety role
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office and reporting systems)
- Valid, unendorsed driver’s licence.
- Strong knowledge of SHEQ legislation and ISO standards
- Leadership and supervisory skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Risk assessment and incident investigation expertise
- Planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and accountability.
