Position: Junior Sous Chef (Junior Sous - 2026)

Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the kitchen and ensuring culinary service standards are met.
  • Work with the Sous Chef to manage staff performance and conduct.
  • Contribute to planning of food menu offerings, including costings, estimating food consumption, requisitioning or purchasing food.
  • Ensure kitchen stations are prepped, stocked and run efficiently during service.
  • Monitor and maintain guest experience with personalised attention during all service.
  • Lead and manage the kitchen team; oversee pastry kitchen operation, maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Oversee inventory, ordering supplies, and manage pastry department budget.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training for all kitchen staff.
  • Act as second‑in‑command in absence of the Sous Chef, ensuring food handling and cleanliness procedures comply with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
  • Matric Certificate and a Culinary Diploma.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy, up‑market establishment.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with other departments.
  • Decisiveness, accuracy and commitment to quality; experience delegating, directing and planning.
  • Results‑oriented mindset and ability to present key ideas.
