Senior Agronomist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and analytical Senior Agronomist to join their team in Cape Town . This role is critical for driving innovation in crop production and ensuring sustainable farming practices across their operations. You will be responsible for conducting in-depth research, providing expert advice on soil health, plant nutrition, and crop protection strategies, and developing tailored agronomic plans for diverse agricultural environments.

The successful candidate will work closely with farm managers and technical teams to enhance productivity and ensure the long-term viability of agricultural land, contributing significantly to the company's commitment to excellence and sustainability in the agricultural sector.

• Conduct field research trials to evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pest control methods.
• Provide expert technical guidance on soil analysis, nutrient management, and irrigation techniques to optimize crop yields.
• Develop and implement comprehensive crop management plans tailored to specific soil types and climatic conditions in the Western Cape region.
• Advise on integrated pest and disease management strategies to minimize crop losses and reduce reliance on chemical inputs.
• Train and mentor junior agronomists and farm staff on best agronomic practices and new technologies.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural science and technology, recommending adoption where beneficial.

• Master's or PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in applied agronomy, with a focus on crop production and research.
• In-depth knowledge of soil chemistry, plant physiology, and entomology.
• Proven experience in experimental design, data analysis, and statistical interpretation.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
• Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies and their application.
