About the Role
Our client seeks a knowledgeable and innovative Agricultural Agronomist to support farming operations in the Cape Town region. This role is crucial for optimizing crop production, soil health, and resource management across various agricultural sites. You will work closely with farm managers and technical teams to analyze soil conditions, recommend appropriate crop management strategies, and introduce sustainable farming practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply scientific expertise in a practical setting, contributing to improved yields and the long-term viability of agricultural enterprises in the Western Cape, while fostering a culture of research and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct soil testing and analysis to assess nutrient levels, pH, and other critical factors.
- Develop tailored crop plans, recommending suitable crop varieties, planting times, and cultivation techniques.
- Provide expert advice on fertilization, irrigation, pest, and disease management strategies.
- Monitor crop development and field conditions, identifying potential issues and implementing timely interventions.
- Research and evaluate new agricultural technologies and sustainable practices for potential adoption.
- Maintain detailed records of field trials, recommendations, and outcomes.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related agricultural discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Agronomist or in a similar agricultural advisory role.
- Strong understanding of plant physiology, soil chemistry, and pest/disease dynamics.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation for agricultural decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for farm managers and staff.
