The Soquel Union Elementary School District is hiring for a general education aide at New Brighton Middle School. The job involves assisting in preparing educational materials and performing a variety of instructional activities under general direction. The aide will receive supervision from the school administrator and direction from the classroom teacher. Responsibilities include tutoring individual and group students, supervising students in practice activities, assisting in reviewing homework assignments, arranging for and operating instructional equipment, preparing instructional and visual aids, maintaining student records, scoring and recording objective test results, maintaining and distributing an inventory of textbooks and supplies, attending meetings relating to curriculum content or student problems, participating in parent conferences, providing assistance to auxiliary staff, and maintaining an orderly learning environment.

Employment standards require completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent, one year of paid or volunteer experience working with children in an educational environment or childcare setting, or a year of college with coursework in psychology, child growth and development, or education. Bilingual qualifications are desirable but not mandatory. Knowledge of elementary concepts, child growth and development, instructional materials, curriculum content, student behavior management, English usage, basic arithmetic, and record keeping is required.

The position involves moderate physical effort including frequent standing, walking, lifting, and occasional climbing or stooping, and requires a valid California driver's license, automobile insurance, a valid First Aid Certificate, a negative TB test every four years, and passing of a pre-employment basic skills test. The salary range is Range 18 on the Classified Unit Salary Schedule.
