Job DescriptionOrbital is seeking an Electrical Construction Coordinator (Electrical Substation & Transmission Line) to join the Electric Services Construction Coordinator Program. The role supports projects in Southern Illinois and primarily seeks candidates who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Marion, IL and have prior experience on Electrical Substation and/or Transmission Line projects. The Coordinator will plan and coordinate construction activities for designated projects to ensure project goals are achieved within schedule and budget.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide safety oversight to ensure compliance with all safety procedures at site, reporting safety compliance issues and incidents to client’s construction manager and Orbital supervisor.
- Participate in pre‑construction activity planning, drawing reviews, and constructability reviews; inspect sites and complete pre‑construction checklists; ensure necessary permits and plans are posted.
- During construction inspect work to ensure safety, environmental, and specification compliance; manage communication with crew, client project manager, and engineering to resolve RFIs that may inhibit progress.
- Identify field‑purchased material needs, communicate to client Construction Manager, order materials and rental equipment, coordinate deliveries, inventory materials and identify shortages to prevent schedule delays.
- Prepare daily log reports that indicate project progress, highlight deficiencies, track completed activities, and monitor compliance.
- Perform miscellaneous duties including maintaining redline drawing markups, completing weekly safety audits, communicating scope changes, confirming utility locates, and signing crew timesheets.
- Occasionally climb ladders and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
The duties and responsibilities listed may be supplemented by additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of relevant Transmission Line or Substation Construction / Maintenance experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or similar preferred.
- Experience in Commercial / Industrial T&D or in management preferred.
- Background in structural, mechanical, or electrical construction/engineering useful; must be familiar with construction prints/drawings.
- OSHA 10‑hour and MEA specific training beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
- Organized, self‑motivated, and detail oriented.
- Able to work well in a group setting and manage simultaneous tasks.
- Willing to travel as needed; travel and lodging costs reimbursed.
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for construction site travel.
- Must pass a post‑offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana, and be subject to random testing as a condition of employment.
This is an on‑site position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
Salary Range$90,000 to $160,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location).
