Position Overview
The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences (SPBS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces an opening for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Behavior Analysis. The candidate will focus on Applied Behavior Analysis with a primary emphasis in areas that complement existing faculty (e.g., early intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorders, developmental disabilities, Functional Communication Training, Functional Analysis, parent training). The anticipated start date is August 11, 2026.
This position is represented by SIU Carbondale Faculty Association / IEA‑NEA. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Note:
due to a new $100,000 fee for H‑1B petitions requesting consular processing outside the U.S., Illinois University cannot provide H‑1B sponsorship for applicants outside the U.S. who require consular processing.
- Maintain an active research program and seek external funding, providing opportunities for graduate students to contribute.
- Contribute to oversight of the on‑campus autism clinic.
- Provide oversight of thesis and dissertation research.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in behavior analysis.
- Supervise practicum and internship experiences and advise graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels.
- Ph.D. in Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or related discipline.
- Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA or BCBA‑D).
- History of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Demonstrated potential to maintain an active, independent research program involving students.
- Teaching experience at the graduate and undergraduate level.
- Experience supervising practicum/internship and advising graduate students.
- ABD candidates will be considered if the Ph.D. is completed by August 11, 2026; otherwise a one‑year appointment may be offered in accordance with university policy.
- Postdoctoral training.
- Established record of securing external research funding.
