Library Technician

Type of Position

Non-certified IMRF 12-month position. Must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License or an Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License registered in Jackson County.

Qualifications

Coursework in business and general office procedures and systems, data entry, word processing, and keyboarding preferred. Must be efficient in data management software programs, word processing and spreadsheet applications including Access, Excel, and Publisher. Employee will receive on-the-job training in library software programs. Must display effective communication skills in interactions with library patrons.

Wage and Benefit Package
  • Wage: $17.00 per hour;
    Pay Dates: 10th and 25th each month

Responsibilities
  • Performs check-in and check-out of library materials.
  • Provides information and general assistance to patrons in locating materials.
  • Troubleshoots and assists when patrons have computer problems.
  • Supervises walk-in students.
  • Coordinating schedules for classes requesting media center use.
  • Maintains patron and materials record; prepares reports upon request.
  • Compiles requested bibliographies of materials on specific subject or theme.
  • Assembles reserve materials upon faculty request.
  • Assists patrons with placing interlibrary loan requests.
  • Prepares and sends overdue notices.
  • Assists students in applying for and verifying computer log-in and password.
  • Assists in selection of materials.
  • Researches book reviews for future purchases.
  • Checks present holdings to avoid duplication.
  • Prepares purchase orders for all library orders.
  • Checks in orders and sends invoices to be paid.
  • Catalogs all incoming materials to get them "shelf ready".
  • Performs "weeding" of materials to be discarded.
  • Maintains record keeping for library budget.
