NTT Faculty - Assistant Instructor​/Assistant Lecturer AVT

The School of Aviation in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for one Assistant Instructor-Assistant Lecturer position. Effective date of appointment is August 11, 2026. This is a 9-month, term, non-tenure-track appointment. This position will support the baccalaureate degree in Aviation Technologies developed to prepare Aviation technicians with advanced technical skills.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. • Teach 12 credit hours, including instruction in the FAA-approved Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant curriculum.
• Maintain class records as required by SIU Carbondale and FAA.
• Participate in program/department support activities.
• Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• Attend department meetings as required.
• Support and positively contribute to SIU’s mission of student success and retention.
• Engage in other assignments as determined by the School Director.

• Possess a valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
• A minimum of three years of industry experience in aviation maintenance or a related field.
• At least one degree in an aviation-related discipline.
• For Assistant Instructor: earned Bachelor’s degree.
• For Assistant Lecturer: earned Master’s degree.
• Consideration of tested experience in accordance with SIU’s Faculty Qualifications and Tested Experience Policy () in place of a degree.

Successful post-secondary teaching experience in aircraft maintenance and/or product support.
