Description

The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale) invites applications for an Lectureposition in Industrial Design. This position is 25% FTE. The successful candidate will teach one Industrial Design course duringthe Fall and Spring semesters. Ideal candidates will have priorindustrial design professional experience and teachingcapabilities.

Due to the newly established $100,000 fee for H-1B petitionsrequesting consular processing outside of the U.S., Southern Illinois University is unable to provide H-1B sponsorship at thistime for any prospective applicant who is outside of the U.S. and requires consular processing.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate level design courses. (onecourse per semester) This includes holding office hours, grading,and submission of final grades.
  • Develop course materials that prepare students for subsequentdesign courses.
  • Participate in Design Portfolio Evaluation and occasionalprogram planning or recruitment activities.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • A terminal degree in a design-related discipline. (e.g.,  Design, MFA in Industrial Design, MDes or MS in Industrial Design, or closely related field) by time of hire.
    • A BFA or BA degree with a specialization in Industrial Designplus a minimum of 5 years of professional industry experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior college-level teaching experience.
    • Professional experience in industrial design practice.
    • Experience with shop tools, rapid prototyping, and digitalfabrication workflows.

    Supplemental Information

    The Design program is housed in 24,000 sq/ft Pulliam Hall Design Wing that includes the Design Research Studio, a print lab, afabrication lab consisting of 3D printers, a laser cutter, vinylcutter, and other fabrication equipment, and a complete wood andmetal shop. All classes are taught in wi-fi equipped classroomssupporting integration of hand and computer skills.

    The Design program currently has 50 students enrolled in its twospecializations. The School of Art and Design (SoAD) has 15 T/TTfaculty members, 13 NTT faculty members, approximately 145undergraduate students, 32 graduate students and is accredited bythe National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). SoADoffers: a BFA degree in Art with specializations in Communication Design, Industrial Design, Art Education, Pre-Art Therapy,Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Glass,Metalsmithing;

    a BA degree in Art with specializations in Art Education, Art History, General Studio, Photography; a MFA degree with specializations in Design, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking,Sculpture, Ceramics, Glass, and Metalsmithing; and a graduatecertificate in Art History.
