The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale) invites applications for a Lecturer position in Industrial Design. This 25% FTE position requires teaching one Industrial Design course during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Please note that H-1B sponsorship is not available for applicants outside the U.S. who require consular processing.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate level design courses, including holding office hours, grading, and submitting final grades.
  • Developing course materials that prepare students for subsequent design courses.
  • Participating in Design Portfolio Evaluation and occasional program planning or recruitment activities.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • A terminal degree in a design‑related discipline (e.g., Ph.D. in Design, MFA in Industrial Design, MDes or MS in Industrial Design, or closely related field) by time of hire.
    • A BFA or BA degree with a specialization in Industrial Design plus a minimum of 5 years of professional industry experience.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Prior college‑level teaching experience.
    • Professional experience in industrial design practice.
    • Experience with shop tools, rapid prototyping, and digital fabrication workflows.
