Position: NTT Faculty - Assistant Instructor (Head Start Assistant Teacher)
Overview
This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment at one of four locations in Jackson and Williamson Counties. Reporting to the Center Director, the Lead Teacher maintains a program of developmentally appropriate classroom instruction and provides a safe and nurturing environment in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Program Policies and Procedures, and Department of Children and Family Services Licensing Standards.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This is a grant-funded position represented by SIU Carbondale Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association/IEA-NEA.

Examples of Duties
Assist in the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and culturally and linguistically appropriate instruction for three to five-year-old children.Engage in classroom management strategies that keep all children both physically and emotionally safe. This includes implementing active supervision, ensuring that no child is ever left unattended.Assist in the completion of accurate and timely developmental screenings and other outcome measures as required by the department.Assist in the completion of home visits and parent-teacher conferences per requirements.Fulfill role as a mandated reporter by ensuring suspected child abuse or neglect is reported to state hotline.Work closely with the Lead Teacher to support an environment conducive to social-emotional development.Assist in the collection and preparing of in-kind documents.Assist in the full implementation of a child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).Complete and track annual professional development requirements.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related fieldOne year of experience working with children ages 3 to 5Preferred Qualifications:12 credit hours of ECE-related coursework preferredRequired Documents:
