This individual is responsible for managing various aspects ofstudy abroad programs at the university. The director's duties include initiating and developing study abroad programs, handlingbudgeting, faculty recruitment, student selection, and logistics.
S/he also provides leadership to study abroad staff and faculty,manages exchange programs with other institutions, coordinatesinternational scholarship programs, and acts as the university'sinternational representative. Additionally, s/he works on promotinghealth and safety measures for students, faculty, and staff duringstudy abroad programs and supervises advisors who assist students with study, work, and travel opportunities abroad.
- Initiates and Manages Overseas Study Programs
- Works with Deans,Chairs, Directors, faculty and external organizations to developoverseas programs including study abroad and exchange programs. - Responsible for overall management of programs includingbudgeting, faculty recruitment and selection, program promotion and recruitment, student selection and orientation, student financial aid management, re-entry programming, program evaluation and logistical services such as housing, registration and insurance.
- Provides Leadership and Directs the Study Abroad Programs Staffand Affiliated Faculty
- Daily contact, weekly meetings and direct guidance. - Initiates and Manages Exchange Programs
- Manages the International Student Exchange Program, the Utrecht Network Exchange and other student exchanges administered through Study Abroad Programs. Serves as liaison with departments offeringstudent exchanges and support the development of new ones. SIUCexchanges currently involve 171 institutions in 44 countries. - Coordinates International Scholarship Programs
- In cooperation with University Honors coordinates Fulbright, Gilman, and National Security Education programs. Also, publicize and advise studentsabout other international grant opportunities in cooperation with University Honors. - Serves as SIUC's International Representative
- Maintainsinternational contacts to ensure the university is represented in international study abroad and exchange organizations. - Coordinates with the Office of University Risk Management to identify, implement and promote best practices for supporting thehealth and safety of students, faculty, and staff while participating in study abroad programs.
- Supervises International Opportunities Advising
- Overseesstudent advisors, interns and volunteers who advise on study, workand travel abroad opportunities. Oversees the collection and organization of resource collection about these topics including financial aid resources in order to provide educational services to students. - Performs other related duties as assigned.
One (1) semester of studying, working, or livingoutside of the United States.
