Job Summary:
The IL-4 Medical Nurse provides specialized nursing care on a 25-bed medical unit primarily serving stroke patients, comfort care, and hospice populations. This role requires delivering comprehensive patient assessments, medication administration, wound care, and management of complex conditions such as dialysis and COPD exacerbations. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care and must be stroke certified with a minimum of two years of nursing experience.
Responsibilities:- Provide skilled nursing care to stroke patients (non-TPA), comfort care, hospice, and post-operative patients.
- Manage patients with heparin drips, wound care, altered mental status, CIWA protocol, acute kidney injury, dialysis, and COPD exacerbations.
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 5-6:1 during night shifts.
- Care for total care patients as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
- Ensure compliance with stroke certification requirements.
Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Stroke certification.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in medical or related specialties.
- Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced medical environment.
Certifications:
- Experience with hospice and comfort care patients.
- Familiarity with care for patients with dialysis, CIWA, and complex post-operative needs.
- Requirement to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
- Night shift nursing with nurse-to-patient ratios of 5-6:1.
- Occasional care of total care patients.
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
