Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill the mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Manager perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management, work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales and recruit new teammates, and share responsibility for training and motivating teammates.
The role includes acting as the Store Manager in their absence and providing leadership that supports the team’s success.
- Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
- Answer questions about the store and its merchandise and recommend products based on guest needs.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions and store policies.
- Use the "Sales Presentation Guide" daily to achieve personal sales and store goals.
- Provide service across the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms and the register area.
- Handle exchanges and returns and turn the process into a show‑making opportunity.
- Co‑operate with the Store Manager to plan sales goals and demonstrate ownership of store performance.
- Identify recruiting opportunities and coach new teammates in daily standards.
- Develop skills and lead new teammates to meet Buckle’s sales and presentation standards.
- Maintain a positive floor culture and support the team’s growth.
- Assist with recruitment, training and performance tracking.
- Own zone ownership and exhibit merchandising standards.
- Conduct store tours and ensure visual standards are met.
- Use Performance Tracker to identify and implement improvements.
- Work a flexible schedule, including holidays and peak days.
- Manage opening and closing checklists and coordinate with corporate as needed.
- Enforce loss prevention policies and store security.
- Handle point‑of‑sale procedures and maintain a clean, organized store.
- Give and receive feedback, and support leadership initiatives.
- Maintain professional relationships and motivate teammates.
- Travel to cover other stores if required.
- High‑school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- One to three months related retail experience or training is acceptable.
Require standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasional sitting. Specific vision and hearing abilities may be required.
Work EnvironmentTypical retail store setting with moderate noise levels.
