Note:
This position is 40% part-time permanent.
Employees at this level receive, store, and issue materials,equipment, and other items from storerooms and keep records. Theywork under general supervision from a designated supervisor.
Examples of Duties- receives, loads/unloads, and counts stock items, and records data
- counts, grades, or weighs articles
- checks incoming orders against items listed on requisitions,invoices, or other forms
- packs and unpacks items to be stocked in stockrooms, warehouses, orstorage yards
- stores items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas
- storessupplies in bins, on the floor, or shelves, depending on the natureof the articles, in a location and position convenient for removalwhen needed
- periodically verifies inventory computations accuracy by comparingthem to physical counts of stock, investigates discrepancies, andadjusts errors
- marks stock items with identifying codes, figures, or letters when required using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools,or other labeling equipment
- cleans or maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areasto ensure compliance with safety regulations
- examines and inspects stock items for wear or defects, and reportsdamage to supervisors
- provides assistance or direction to other workers
- rotates specified stock according to receipt date
- fills orders from requisitions or issues supplies and stock to students, faculty, and staff
- orders supplies to maintain inventory quota
- processes emergency orders and express shipments for special-order parts and supplies in a timely manner
- operates a forklift, pallet jack, and/or narrow aisle reach trucks daily to achieve required high rack palletized storage, and performs basic preventative maintenance on material handling equipment as assigned
- performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the startdate for this position.
Veteran EligibilityVeterans who qualify for preference must provide proof of eligibility within ten (10) working days of submitting an application, unless the same proof has already been submitted in a previous application. The required proof of eligibility includes, at a minimum, a copy of the veteran's DD214/DD215 form (Department of Defense), NGB
22 form (National Guard), or Discharge Orders or DD256 Discharge Certificate (Reserves).
The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meetthe minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which youwill receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the Final date to receive applications,the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
