We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Ecologists to join our supportive and well‑established Ecology Team during the 2026 ecology survey season. Positions are anticipated to last for a minimum of 7 months, commencing from mid‑March, during which time you will be based out of one of our three offices in Cardiff, Cheltenham and Cirencester. This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn and further develop your ecology survey and consultancy skills, working alongside our talented ecology team.
We think this job would be perfect for someone who is looking to start their Ecology consultancy journey. Duties will include -
- Undertaking habitat and protected species surveys;
- Providing Clerk of Works support;
- Assisting with data input and analysis, research and report writing; and
- Getting involved in mitigation and best practice techniques required by the professional consultancy industry.
During this time, you will be supervised and supported by a strong team of expert ecologists, enabling you to gain valuable training and experience.
Of course, we’ll need you to have all the right qualifications and experience – excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. A relevant first degree and a good understanding of ecology and wildlife legislation, whilst also being proficient using MS Office, are sought after. Applicants with previous experience of protected species surveys and holding or having previously worked under NE/NRW species licences are highly desirable.
To enjoy your time at EDP, you’ll also need to be personable, passionate and proactive. We’re a friendly bunch who work and play hard! You’ll need to hold a full, valid UK driving licence as your role will involve you travelling to various sites across the country; access to your own car for business use is essential.
