Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a research assistant to work on a project that aims to Welsh language technology tools. The project will develop a new version of CyTag, an automated tool which helps to identify and label words in Welsh texts, using modern artificial intelligence techniques. The new tagger will be integrated into other tools we have developed, and will be made openly available through the website Digi Grid (www.digigrid.cymru).

This will make Welsh language tools easier to maintain, more sustainable, and more accessible to teachers, learners, researchers and developers. The project will also strengthen Digi Grid as a national platform for Welsh language technology by improving the visibility and accessibility of Welsh language resources and supporting their long-term public availability.

The role combines Welsh language expertise with user-focused development and outreach activities, helping to ensure that the project's outputs are both linguistically robust and accessible to the communities that will use them.

The Research Assistant will contribute Welsh language expertise to support the development and testing of the new CyTag system. The role will involve reviewing tagging outputs, helping to identify and resolve linguistic issues, and ensuring that the system accurately captures Welsh grammatical structures and patterns.

In addition, the Research Assistant will support the wider adoption and impact of the project by:

  • helping to improve Digi Grid's usability and user experience;
  • increasing the visibility and discoverability of Welsh language technology resources hosted on the platform;
  • producing short demonstrations, user guides and outreach materials to support uptake by teachers, learners, researchers and other stakeholders;
  • contributing to user engagement activities that help ensure the resources meet community needs.
