The Responsive Repairs Unit maintains over 14,000 Council-owned social housing properties, as well as transitional housing and temporary supported accommodation. The service helps ensure residents live in safe, well-maintained homes.
About the jobYou will inspect and quantify repairs in occupied Council homes, identify the work required and raise appropriate repairs to maintain homes to a reasonable standard.
The role will focus mainly on plastering and other wet trades, including deciding whether work should be completed by the in‑house workforce or external contractors. Other inspection work may also be required.
You will ensure works meet the Repairs Standard, taking account of Council resources and the needs of contract holders.
This is a customer‑facing role requiring strong communication skills and a commitment to excellent service.
Responsibilities- Inspect and quantify repairs in occupied Council homes.
- Identify required work and raise appropriate repairs.
- Decide whether work should be completed by the in‑house workforce or external contractors.
- Ensure works meet the Repairs Standard taking account of Council resources and contract holders.
- Perform other inspection work as required.
- Maintain a customer‑facing approach with strong communication and excellent service commitment.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a relevant trade, such as plastering.
- A relevant plastering, building or construction qualification is desirable.
- Experience in responsive maintenance, assessing repairs, identifying causes of issues and resolving repair requests promptly.
- Good understanding of general building and construction principles.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, methodical approach, analytical decision making.
- Understanding of equality issues and ability to adapt to change.
- Commitment to high‑quality customer service.
