Position: Electrical QS (Qualified Supervisor)
Overview

Our Client is a rapidly growing renewable energy installer based in Cardiff, delivering high‑quality solar PV, battery storage, and air‑source heat pump systems across Wales and the South West. They are seeking an experienced Qualified Supervisor (QS) to oversee electrical compliance, ensure installation quality, and maintain accreditation standards across all renewable technologies. The QS will act as the company’s technical lead for electrical safety, certification, and regulatory governance, ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of workmanship, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Compliance & Governance Act as the company’s Qualified Supervisor for solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, and ASHP installations. Ensure all electrical works comply with BS 7671, MCS standards, DNO requirements, Building Regulations, and RECC. Oversee and sign off electrical work, test results, commissioning sheets, and compliance documentation. Maintain and update internal technical procedures, installation standards, and quality systems.

System Design & Technical Oversight

Review and approve solar PV and battery system designs, ensuring correct sizing, inverter selection, cable calculations, and protection measures. Validate ASHP electrical requirements, including load assessments, breaker sizing, and safe isolation. Provide technical guidance to surveyors, designers, and installation teams during pre‑installation assessments.

Installation Quality Assurance

Conduct on‑site audits to ensure installations meet company standards for safety, tidiness, and long‑term reliability. Ensure installations follow the correct workflow: survey, design, installation, testing, commissioning, and customer handover. Oversee safe working practices including roof access, DC/AC isolation, battery safety, and ASHP electrical integration.

Team Leadership & Training

Mentor electricians, solar installers, and ASHP engineers. Deliver training on electrical safety, testing procedures, renewable technologies, and commissioning standards. Ensure all staff follow correct testing, inspection, and certification processes.

Customer Assurance & Technical Support

Provide expert technical support to customers when required. Ensure customers receive accurate system performance information, monitoring app setup, and maintenance guidance. Maintain the company’s reputation for clear communication, honest advice, and high‑quality service.

Regulatory & Accreditation Management

Maintain compliance with MCS, NAPIT/NICEIC, RECC, and other accreditation bodies. Prepare documentation for audits, surveillance visits, and renewals. Manage DNO applications (G98/G99) and ensure correct submission and approval.

Required Qualifications & Experience

NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification AM2 / AM2S / AM2E 18th Edition (BS 7671) Level 3 Inspection & Testing (2391‑52 or equivalent) Experience in solar PV, battery storage, or ASHP electrical integration Strong understanding of MCS standards, electrical compliance, and renewable system safety Ability to lead teams, manage technical risk, and uphold high installation standards

Desirable Experience

Experience commissioning hybrid solar‑battery systems

Experience with ASHP electrical requirements and integration Knowledge of monitoring platforms such as Solis, Giv Energy, Sunsynk, Tesla Experience working with premium renewable products and long‑term performance warranties
