Position: TRADE APPRENTICE - CARPENTRY

Cardiff Council is the largest Local Authority in Wales responsible for delivering repairs to over 14,000 properties. The successful candidates will work within our service area and develop a variety of workplace skills, knowledge and experience in our Responsive Repairs Unit and Void Section as well developing knowledge and understanding of the work and responsibilities of working in Local Government in Cardiff.

You will be employed on a 2-3 year fixed term contract and will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification in Carpentry in the role via day release at Cardiff & Vale College (Barry Campus).

The successful applicants will work as part of a team to deliver a first-class service. As a Carpentry Apprentice we will help and encourage you to develop skills that will support you with your future career. You will be encouraged to take on a wide range of jobs. You will receive supervision, on the job training and support from an experienced Tradesmen within the team, who will help you to develop.

What We Are Looking For From You

As a Carpentry Apprentice you will be developing to provide efficient support in a positive, customer focused manner.

You should show a willingness to learn and be comfortable in a learning environment. You will attend Cardiff and Vale college one day per week to complete the relevant qualification in your trade and be expected to complete this within the correct timescales.

You will need three GCSEs, ideally in Maths, English and Science at grades A–D, or equivalent, in order to enrol on the NVQ course.

Additional information

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement, which brings pay rates up to £13.45 per hour. This supplement has been reviewed in April 2026 and will be reviewed thereafter annually every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of the Living Wage Supplement.

This post is temporary for 2 years if you have already gained the Level 2 qualification or 3 years if you have not, from your date of commencement.
