Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic
Responsible for efficient and compliant fleet maintenance for a large fleet of
900+ Council vehicles and Parks & Cemeteries plant and machinery.
To carry out repair and maintenance of heavy good vehicles, motor vehicles and plant to comply with the standards set by legislation, Cardiff Council, Central Transport Services, and vehicle manufactures as applicable.
To carry out routine vehicle maintenance inspections in line with council policy and DVSA compliance.
To keep records of all work undertaken, complete job cards or check lists to enable statutory records to be made and productive hours to be charged accordingly.
To list all parts required to effect repair to enable requisitions to be completed to enable an efficient and effective repair.
To report any fault or defect apparent on a vehicle and not specified on a job card to enable it to be checked and if appropriate repair to be authorised.
To report any damage, repair or non-predictable maintenance undertaken on a vehicle to enable appropriate costings to be captured.
To work with others to maintain a high standard of Service and Customer Care.
To undertake any relevant training as appropriate.
Actively engage and make recommendations to support continuous improvement.
What We Are Looking For From YouTo be considered for this post you must demonstrate you are:
- A Time Served Apprentice or equivalent.
- A Qualified technician to minimum of City & Guilds Level I & II or equivalent NVQ’s.
- Have proven commercial experience working as a fully qualified vehicle LGV & HGV Technician.
- Have experience in the repair and maintenance of a wide range of commercial vehicle brands with working knowledge in diagnostics.
- Have the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and utilise resources to maximise outcomes.
- Have the ability to work to deadlines to ensure work is completed on time according to prescribed schedules.
- Have the ability to undertake repair and maintenance of Plant, LGV’s and other vehicles
- You must be prepared to work shifts, and weekends when required.
- Take personal responsibly for Health and Safety and promote compliance within CTS.

Shift working is a requirement of this post for which a shift allowance of 10% of salary is payable.
This post attracts a Tool Allowance of £444.24 per annum.
