Salary: £42,000 – £48,000 DOE

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm (Full-time, Permanent)

Our client is seeking an experienced Gas Safe and Plumbing Engineer to join its internal team, delivering domestic refurbishment, property maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects throughout South Wales.

This is a varied, hands-on role covering plumbing and heating surveys, fault diagnosis, general plumbing repairs, first and second-fix installations, boiler and central heating work, bathroom and kitchen plumbing, testing, commissioning and appropriate multi-skilled duties.

Projects will involve both occupied and vacant residential properties requiring repair or reinstatement following fire, flood, escape of water or accidental damage. You will work across the full project lifecycle, from initial inspection and diagnosis through to installation, certification and handover.

Gas work must be undertaken strictly within your current Gas Safe registration categories, ACS qualifications and demonstrated competence.

The successful candidate will also support the company with obtaining and maintaining Gas Safe business registration and associated compliance processes. This may include being listed as an engineer against the company’s registration, subject to Gas Safe Register requirements, and supporting assessments, inspections, certification and record keeping.

A professional, considerate and customer-focused approach is essential when working in homeowners’ and policyholders’ properties.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake plumbing, heating and gas surveys, inspect existing installations, diagnose faults and assess damage caused by insured events. Identify whether systems can be repaired, retained or require replacement, isolate unsafe services where necessary and accurately record findings.
  • Complete first and second-fix plumbing and heating installations, including hot and cold-water services, heating pipework, soil and waste systems, sanitaryware, radiators, valves, pumps, cylinders, controls and domestic appliances. Install and pressure-test approved pipework systems and rectify defects.
  • Install, replace, service, repair and commission domestic boilers and heating systems within current Gas Safe categories. Carry out gas tightness testing, purging, appliance testing, heating system flushing, cleaning, dosing and balancing, and inspect flues, ventilation and combustion arrangements.
  • Complete bathroom, kitchen, shower-room and utility-room plumbing, together with general maintenance and remedial work including leak detection, taps, valves, toilets, wastes and minor pipework alterations. Undertake careful strip-out, refitting and minor making-good where competent.
  • Coordinate works with project managers and other trades, review scopes, identify materials and report variations or discrepancies. Test and commission completed works, maintain accurate records and certificates, and explain completed systems to customers.
  • Support Gas Safe business registration and compliance, including assessments, inspections, certification, record keeping, quality control and Building Regulations notifications. Ensure all gas work remains within the applicable registration categories and qualifications.

Essential Qualifications and

Experience:

  • Current Gas Safe registration and valid Gas Safe , covering the domestic gas categories required, with current ACS qualifications.
  • Recognised plumbing or domestic heating qualification, apprenticeship, NVQ or equivalent.
  • Strong experience in domestic plumbing and heating, including boiler installation, servicing, repair, fault finding, central heating, first and second-fix plumbing, bathrooms, kitchens and general maintenance.
  • Competence in testing, commissioning and completing gas safety and installation documentation.
  • Good knowledge of gas safety requirements, Building Regulations and water regulations, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and follow appropriate isolation, reporting and escalation procedures.
