Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Groundworker to join our responsive repairs and maintenance team, delivering essential groundwork repairs and improvements across our social housing properties and communal areas.

The successful candidate will carry out a range of external maintenance and repair works, helping to ensure that residents’ homes, pathways, access routes and surrounding areas remain safe, accessible and well maintained. You will respond to repair requests, identify defects and complete works to a high standard, providing a professional and customer-focused service to residents.

Responsibilities:
  • Carry out responsive groundwork repairs to social housing properties, communal areas, footpaths, access routes and external spaces.
  • Remove, repair, relay or replace paving slabs, flags and other paving materials to rectify defects and trip hazards.
  • Prepare and lay new concrete paths, steps, ramps and access routes, ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Repair damaged, uneven or defective ground surfaces, identifying potential hazards and completing remedial works as required.
  • Prepare and lay concrete footings to support associated repair and maintenance works, including brickwork where required.
  • Undertake minor excavation works, including digging trenches, holes and ditches for repairs, drainage, utilities and external maintenance.
  • Carry out general ground preparation, reinstatement and landscaping repairs following maintenance works.
  • Work safely within occupied residential properties and communal areas, minimising disruption and maintaining a clean and tidy working environment.
  • Identify additional defects during site visits and report any issues requiring further investigation or specialist attention.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe working practices around residents, pedestrians, vehicles and underground services.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, colleagues, supervisors and other trades to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete work orders and report on completed repairs, outstanding works and any materials or follow-up work required.
You Will Need:
  • Proven experience in groundwork, ideally within social housing, property maintenance or responsive repairs.
  • Experience repairing, removing and reinstating paving slabs, flags, concrete paths, ramps and other external surfaces.
  • Ability to identify and rectify defects, trip hazards and damaged ground surfaces.
  • Experience carrying out minor excavation, ground preparation, concrete laying and reinstatement works.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures, including working safely around residents, pedestrians and underground services.
  • A professional, customer-focused approach when working in and around occupied residential properties and communal areas.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workloads and complete repairs efficiently to a high standard.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-trade responsive maintenance team.
  • Ability to follow work orders, meet repair deadlines and report completed works, outstanding issues and any additional repairs required.
