Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking an experienced and compassionate Residential Care Director (RN) to provide leadership and oversight for our residential care operations. Position Summary

The Residential Care Director (RN) is responsible for the overall operation of the residential care unit, including assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating individualized resident service plans. This role ensures residents receive the necessary care and services to support their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well‑being while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and professional standards.

This position directly supervises residential care staff and works closely with organizational leadership, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure exceptional outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to residential care staff
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop team members to promote professional growth
  • Complete performance evaluations and support employee recognition initiatives
  • Create a culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and quality care
  • Supervise Residential Care Specialists, LPNs, RN Charge Nurses, Medication Assistants, CNAs, CNA‑Ms, and Activities staff
Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
  • Oversee delivery of high‑quality resident care and services
  • Develop and evaluate individualized resident service plans
  • Monitor resident needs and coordinate appropriate interventions
  • Ensure residents receive personal care, medications, nutrition, and services in a safe environment
  • Collaborate with physicians, families, social services, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Participate in admissions, discharge planning, and resident care coordination
Compliance & Quality Management
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, VA regulations, and Maine Veterans’ Homes policies
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and resident records

    Oversee required documentation, including MDS assessments, resident status reports, and progress notes
  • Complete quality audits related to medications, treatments, and resident care practices
  • Promote continuous improvement in resident outcomes and care delivery

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maine
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience
  • Strong knowledge of residential care practices and applicable regulations
  • Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate nursing and healthcare teams

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Five or more years of clinical nursing experience
  • Long‑term care experience preferred
  • Experience in geriatrics, dementia care, and residential care settings
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and developing care plans
