AWS Cloud Engineer

The AWS Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure. This role includes configuring AWS resources, managing security policies, automating deployments, and optimizing cloud performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AWS services, networking, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • AWS Administration:
    • Manage AWS resources, including EC2 instances, S3 buckets, RDS databases, and VPCs.
    • Deploy and configure AWS services such as IAM, Cloud Formation, and Cloud Watch.
    • Optimize AWS cost and performance through monitoring and resource adjustments.
    • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS Cloud Formation.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Enforce security best practices using AWS IAM policies, security groups, and encryption.
    • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
    • Implement compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, FedRAMP) as required.
    • Monitor AWS environment and logs for security threats and respond to incidents.
  • Automation & Dev Ops:
    • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
    • Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to streamline cloud operations.
  • Networking & Performance Optimization:
    • Configure and manage VPCs, subnets, route tables, and VPN connections.
    • Optimize cloud workloads for performance, availability, and scalability.
    • Troubleshoot AWS networking issues, including load balancing and DNS.
  • Troubleshooting & Support:
    • Diagnose and resolve AWS infrastructure and service-related issues.
    • Provide technical support to developers and other teams using AWS.
    • Monitor and analyze system performance, logs, and alerts.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain documentation for AWS architectures, policies, and procedures.
    • Create playbooks and knowledge base articles for troubleshooting.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stay up to date with the latest AWS technologies and best practices.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for incident response.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to enhance cloud strategies and implementations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    2+ years of hands-on experience in AWS cloud administration, Dev Ops, or cloud engineering.
  • Certifications (
    * Preferred but not required): AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer – Professional, AWS Certified Security – Specialty
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Strong knowledge of AWS services, networking, and security best practices. Experience with Terraform, Cloud Formation, or other Infrastructure as Code tools. Proficiency in scripting with Python, Bash, or Power Shell. Knowledge of monitoring tools like AWS Cloud Watch, Splunk, or Datadog. Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS/EKS).
  • Problem-Solving:
    Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to diagnose and resolve cloud infrastructure issues efficiently.
  • Communication:
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document technical processes clearly for both technical and non-technical users.
  • Clearance:
    Active Secret Security Clearance
