Production Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Plant 4 Production Supervisor is responsible for the management of the Plant 4 manufacturing processes. The Value Stream Manager will assign the Production Supervisor to one of the following departments within Plant 4:
Mixing, Conventional, ERH, or Conversion. This position provides leadership on the shift such that training objectives are accomplished, high levels of safety and quality are maintained, production schedules are met, and problem solving and decision making are facilitated. The Plant 4 Production Supervisor promotes a teamwork both on and between shifts as well as between departments. This position is responsible for maintaining records to comply with company procedures and applying policies/rules in a fair and consistent manner.
The Plant 4 Production Supervisor should have a servant leadership approach with their teams and should foster a participative and structured work environment to promote active employee engagement and involvement.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Department Management:
* Providing leadership to shift personnel to meet desired output
* Review work-in-process levels in all production areas to make recommendations and adjustments concerning equipment downtime, manning levels, and material quality
* Hold a clear understanding of plant information systems to maximize system uptime and to keep data areas to a minimum
* Providing report-outs during the daily boardwalk
* Filling in for other Production Supervisors when required
* Supervision & Employee Development:
* Uniformly enforcing and applying company policies and procedures to maintain fair and consistent work practices
* Providing input and clarification where necessary to ensure communication and understanding between employees
* Reinforcing and teaching appropriate leadership actions with crew leaders
* Providing honest, objective, and specific feedback to provide a clear understanding of shortcomings and improvement areas
* Supporting and participating in employee task forces and problem-solving groups
* Facilitating groups to maintain focus and provide necessary resources
* Identifying personnel with the desire and skill to be trained and developed for other jobs with greater responsibilities
* Quality:
* Managing shift activities to meet the Plant's scrap, rework, and defect goals
* Providing feedback and coaching to crews to obtain the desired continuous improvement goals
* Ensuring that published processing specifications and grading standards are followed
* Ensuring that recommendations for changes and improvements are vetted and implemented where appropriate
* Maintain a working knowledge of plant processes to serve as a resource for internal and external decision makers
* Monitoring defect and downtime causes to provide feedback and recommendations to the Value Stream Manager for future improvements
* Training & Safety:
* Providing clear and consistent direction relative to maintaining and enhancing the plant's safety goals
* Maintaining safety awareness through monthly shift safety meetings
* Conducting additional small group meetings as required to address specific needs
* Reviewing accidents and near miss situations
* Completing and documenting incident reports in the designated database for use by management
* Maintaining shift records relative to on-the-job training status for all department personnel
* Initiating manning assignments to address shortcomings and ensure that production goals are met with qualified personnel
* Cost Reduction & Control:
* Fostering awareness of the plant's cost reduction goals
* Coaching and encouraging crews to identify and implement cost savings ideas
* Understanding the concepts behind lean manufacturing and implementing them in the workplace
* Providing leadership to obtain the data and details necessary for project justification
* Controls usage of supply items and recommending changes to maintain control or reduce costs
* Supporting major cost reduction efforts relative to materials or formulations by actively obtaining information and communicating it to department personnel
* Communication:
* Coordinating the gathering and dissemination of information for production, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources
* Interfacing with Maintenance personnel on non-technical aspects when necessary
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Knowledge:
* Familiarity with the day-to-day operational activities of Plant 4
* Familiarity with Plant information systems and maintaining the accuracy of the systems
* Understanding lean manufacturing tools and best practices
* General understanding of plant safety practices and policies
* Lockout/Tagout procedures
* Confined space regulations and procedures
* OSHA requirements and regulations
