The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Senior Advocate to join our Advocacy Department. In this role, you will work with individuals, groups, families, and general public in areas such as education, legislation, and community services to advance the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly in the area of special education.
- Educate and support families by providing information and guidance on available services and rights.
- Coordinate educational seminars and community outreach events.
- Increase public awareness through presentations, community events, and advocacy initiatives.
- Monitor educational and program services to ensure individuals receive appropriate supports.
- Maintain advocacy records, outcome data, and prepare reports for funding agencies.
- Analyze department outcomes and recommend improvements to programs and data collection.
- Represent CPARC on community, educational, and government committees.
- Supervise the Intake/Special Education Advocate and provide leadership in the absence of the Director of Advocacy Services.
- Travel throughout Cumberland and Perry Counties to provide outreach and advocacy services.
- Associate's degree in a related field and two years of advocacy experience, OR
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of experience advocating for individuals with disabilities, including within the special education system.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the intellectual and developmental disabilities service system and special education process preferred.
