Position Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for all activities at the construction site, including safety, schedule, quality assurance, cost control, subcontractor coordination, and adherence to State and Federal OSHA requirements. He or she provides leadership and direction at the job site, works closely with Project Management to ensure a safe, well-built project, and manages 2 to 7 Dempsey Construction team members such as Laborers, Carpenters, Foremen, and Assistant Superintendents.

The Superintendent is the lead representative for Dempsey Construction on the job site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe construction site
  • Create and manage the project schedule in Microsoft Project and determine the most advantageous sequencing of work
  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day construction field operations
  • Ensure project compliance with all safety standards, building codes, plans, specifications and best construction practices
  • Direct, schedule and coordinate subcontractor work
  • Read all types of plans: architectural, structural, MEP, civil, etc.
  • Work successfully with owners, consultants and governing agency representatives
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination and safety meetings
  • Review and coordinate submittals and shop drawings
  • Resolve field issues through the Request for Information (RFI) process
  • Maintain the highest level of quality assurance
  • Ensure adherence by all site personnel to OSHA and state and federal requirements
  • Document daily jobsite activities and conditions
  • Progressively manage the project schedule
  • Manage and coordinate project inspections, permits, and signoffs
  • Manage the billing process with the project manager, including subcontractor bills, material supplier bills, and owner billings
  • Other necessary functions as required for a safe, well-built project
Supervisor Responsibilities

Coordinates and works with on‑site resources, governing agency representatives, clients, design professionals, and subcontractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering commercial construction projects exceeding $10M in contract value
  • Familiarity with regulatory construction standards
  • Previous experience scheduling, ordering, field supervision and quality assurance
  • Must have a clean driving record
Education
  • High school Diploma or equivalent education required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management preferred
Certifications
  • OSHA 30
  • First Aid and CPR
Skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Microsoft Project
  • Bluebeam and Procore required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with owners, subcontractors, and project teams
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Strong ability to read and interpret plans
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
